Sky News Australia published this video item, entitled “Morrison’s message to China ‘significant'” – below is their description.
Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell says Prime Minister Scott Morrison delivered a “significant” foreign policy speech where he addressed tensions between China and the US. Addressing mounting hostility between Beijing and Canberra at a United Kingdom think tank overnight, Mr Morrison said China’s rise should not prompt a return to Cold War era divisions. “Our actions are wrongly seen and interpreted by some only through the lens of the strategic competition between China and the United States,” he told the British Policy Exchange. “It’s as if Australia does not have its own unique interest or its own views as an independent sovereign state. This is just false, and worse, it needlessly deteriorates relationships. “If we are to avoid a new era of polarisation, then in the decades ahead, there must be more nuanced appreciation of individual state’s interests in how they deal with the major powers. “Stark choices are in no one’s interests.”
