Remote regions should continue to be used for quarantine facilities

Sky News Australia published this video item, entitled “Remote regions should continue to be used for quarantine facilities” – below is their description.

Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell says he hopes federal authorities continue to consider remote regions for quarantine facilities across the country, namely for overseas arrivals and returned travellers. “I raised on Sunday Agenda the fact that initially when the federal government was discussing quarantine of overseas arrivals with the states, federal authorities were keener on remote locations being used so there was not the prospect of leaks like the ones which forced the Melbourne lockdown,” he said. “We have seen this with the establishment of Howard Springs in Darwin and I hope it is something governments consider next year.” Health Minister Greg Hunt told Sky News the government’s first priority was to ensure people had access to hospitals, medical care and were safe. “We want to be careful about moving people around – who might potentially be positive – over vast distances to areas with services that may not be fully developed,” he said.
