Football: Liverpool’s Steven Gerrard to Miss Rest of 2010/11 Season

Liverpool captain, Steven Gerrard, will miss the rest of the 2010/2011 season after the player suffered a recurrence of a groin injury.

Gerrard had returned to training a week ago following surgery on an injured groin at the start of March, but suffered another similar injury on Friday 1st April, after which the player had been under  medical supervision.

Speaking at Liverpool’s training ground this morning, however, caretaker manager Kenny Dalglish confirmed that the player would take no further part in this season, sating simply that, while Gerrard’s precise injury is not known, “he won’t be involved again this season.”

The news will come as a major blow to Liverpool, who, under Dalglish, have put their Barclays Premier League start behind them, and are in the process of pressing for European places.

Liverpool are currently 6th in the Barclays Premier League, five points behind Spurs, who are firth, and four ahead of their Merseyside rivals, Everton.
