For years, the focus of the jihadist threat has been on the Middle East, Africa and even Europe, but Latin #America is now home to what is considered by many to be the West’s jihadist nest: the small Caribbean nation of Trinidad and Tobago.

Jihadism has been particularly strong in the Caribbean country since its Islamic insurgency in 1990, but many analysts now fear that this phenomenon is spreading to Latin America. Brazil is already showing clear signs of this.

How did #Trinidad and #Tobago become the Western epicentre of jihadism? When did this drift towards Islamic fundamentalism begin? Is Trinidad and Tobago just the beginning of a jihadist wave in Latin America?
