Kosovo has postponed the introduction of tougher border controls to Serbia after a sharpening of tensions. Ethnic Serbs blocked roads in the north of Kosovo and unknown gunmen fired on police. This is the latest in the ongoing conflict between the two regions.
Kosovo’s majority ethnic Albanians, who are majority Muslims, declared independence from Serbia in 2008. Serbia has refused to recognize Kosovo’s statehood, even though it has no formal control there. Kosovo closed two border crossings to Serbia after the incidents.
