Around half the world’s population have periods during a large part of their lives. But many cannot afford menstrual hygiene products – the World Bank estimates 500 million women and girls don’t have adequate access to such products. Ghana imposes some of the highest taxes on menstrual hygiene products in the world, putting them out of reach for many of those who need them. Social activists are calling for change.
