Kyiv’s mayor Vitali Klitschko says another round of overnight airstrikes has caused heating and power outages in and around the Ukrainian capital. As Russia promised, there was no let-up in attacks over the New Year’s holiday weekend.
With little change on the battlefield as Russia’s war nears the one-year mark, Ukraine is hoping weapons deliveries will help turn the tide in 2023. But so far key Western suppliers have been holding back with some of their high-tech equipment that Kyiv wants most.

Overlooking the Dnieper River is the Kiev Pechersk Lavra monastery complex, a Christian pilgrimage site housing Scythian tomb relics and catacombs containing mummified Orthodox monks.
Vitali Volodymyrovych Klitschko is a Ukrainian politician and former professional boxer. He has served as mayor of Kyiv and head of the Kyiv City State Administration, having held both offices since June 2014. Klitschko is a former leader of the Petro Poroshenko Bloc and a former Member of the Ukrainian Parliament.
