South Africa hosted the 15th BRICS Summit on August 22-24, during which leaders of the BRICS countries agreed to invite six new members – Argentina, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates – to join the group.
In this episode, people from South Africa, China and the United States expressed their expectations and suggestions for BRICS. Enhancing the global influence of BRICS and advancing its role in promoting development, upholding multilateralism and improving global governance are key expectations. Among the interviewees, Yin Tiejun from China hopes BRICS countries will leverage their influence to promote the development of multilateralism on a global scale to construct a united and harmonious community with a shared future for mankind.

The capital, Cairo, is home to Ottoman landmarks like Muhammad Ali Mosque and the Egyptian Museum, a trove of antiquities.
Ethiopia, in the Horn of Africa, is a rugged, landlocked country split by the Great Rift Valley. With archaeological finds dating back more than 3 million years, it’s a place of ancient culture. Among its important sites are Lalibela with its rock-cut Christian churches from the 12th–13th centuries. Aksum is the ruins of an ancient city with obelisks, tombs, castles and Our Lady Mary of Zion church.
Iran, also called Persia, officially the Islamic Republic of Iran, is a country in Western Asia. Its central location in Eurasia and proximity to the Strait of Hormuz give it significant geostrategic importance. Tehran is the capital and largest city.
Iran is home to one of the world’s oldest civilizations, beginning with the formation of the Elamite kingdoms in the fourth millennium BC. The Iranian Revolution established the current Islamic Republic in 1979.

There are fifty states in the union, which is a federal republic ruled by a representative democracy. Nearly ten million square kilometres are inhabited by over 300 million people.
