Women becoming ordained in the Baptist Church has long been an issue within the conservative leaning Southern Baptist Convention – considered to be the largest Protestant denomination in the United States. During the group’s annual meeting, delegates voted to uphold the ousting of two churches for having female pastors. Professor of women, gender and sexuality studies at Oregon State University, Susan Shaw, tells The World’s Beverley O’Connor that the battle over this issue is one that was lost a long time ago.
