US senate confirms Christopher Wray as new FBI director

Christopher Wray has been confirmed the new head of the FBI, nearly three months after President Trump abruptly fired Wray’s predecessor, James Comey.

Wray takes charge as an investigation continues into Russia’s role in the 2016 presidential election and possible collusion with Trump campaign officials.

He has vowed to remain independent from political and presidential persuasion.

Al Jazeera’s Heidi Zhou-Castro reports from Washington, DC.
