Freak weather hit China’s southern Guangdong province on July 2, 2022, when a tornado about 160 metres (525ft) wide tore through Foshan city for nearly three minutes. Its damage path was 1.2km (0.75 miles) long. On the same day along the coast 400km (249 miles) away, a waterspout touched down over coastal waters near Shantou city. No casualties were reported from either event.
