The UK court of appeal on Wednesday ruled plans for a third runway at Heathrow airport illegal on environmental grounds, saying that the government had not taken into account its commitment to the Paris Agreement. UK transport secretary Grant Shapps said that the government wouldn’t appeal the verdict, saying that “our manifesto makes clear any Heathrow expansion will be industry led.” The government has set a target in law of net zero emissions by 2050.
