New Zealand’s food basket is drying up. For months, the Hawke’s Bay had no significant rain and farmers are hurting. They can’t grow enough feed for sheep or cattle to eat so they’ve had to drastically reduce numbers by sending stock to the works early. Recent downpours haven’t helped because it’s now too cold for the grass to grow properly. The tight-knit rural community has rallied but that’s just a band aid. Is there long term fix for a region that seems to get drier every year?
