Egyptian Pharaoh’s 4,600 yo Boat Sets Sail for Giza Museum

RT published this video item, entitled “Egyptian Pharaoh’s 4,600 yo Boat Sets Sail for Giza Museum” – below is their description.

The rulers of ancient Egypt knew how to travel to the afterlife in style, as demonstrated by Pharaoh Khufu’s 42-meter (138-foot)-long cedarwood boat, modelled on transport favored by the sun god Ra. Buried with the Pharaoh in the largest of the three Giza pyramids, the vessel was discovered by archaeologists in 1954, by which time, hopefully, Khufu had no more use for it.

In This Story: Ancient Egypt

Ancient Egypt was a civilization of ancient North Africa, concentrated along the lower reaches of the Nile River, situated in the place that is now the country Egypt.

Ancient Egyptian civilization coalesced around 3100 BC with the political unification of Upper and Lower Egypt under Menes.

The civilization was notable for the early development of an independent writing system, mathematics, and medicine, construction projects including pyramids, obelisks and temples, trade and even a peace treaty with surrounding regions, the first planked boats, as well as a formidable military. Ancient Egyptian society included a bureaucracy of elite scribes, religious leaders, and administrators under the control of a pharaoh, who ensured the cooperation and unity of the Egyptian people in the context of an elaborate system of religious beliefs.
