RT (formerly Russia Today) is a state-controlled international television network funded by the Russian federal tax budget.
It operates pay television channels directed to audiences outside of Russia, as well as providing online content in English, Spanish, French, German, Arabic, and Russian.
RT is a brand of “TV-Novosti”, an “autonomous non-profit organization”, founded by the Russian news agency, RIA Novosti, on 6 April 2005.
According to RT, the network’s feed is carried by 22 satellites and over 230 operators, which provides a distribution reach to about 700 million households in more than 100 countries, and that RT America is available to 85 million households throughout the United States.
