Then came the pandemic, shattering the tourism industry, while pushing many who depend on it into poverty. The collapse caused an economic emergency: Sri Lanka was running out of money.

Now its borders are open again. Vaccinated tourists can return. Sri Lanka needs to revive tourism, but is that possible in a pandemic?
