Berejiklian concedes on restrictions on gatherings, venues

Sky News Australia published this video item, entitled “Berejiklian concedes on restrictions on gatherings, venues” – below is their description.

New South Wales Premier Gladys Berejiklian has reportedly conceded on easing restrictions across the state as she was talked into lifting more measures than initially planned on Wednesday. The Daily Telegraph revealed Ms Berejiklian did not want to remove the 50 person cap on smaller venues, or allow up to 50 people to gather in a backyard. Several state figures – including Treasurer Dominic Perrottet and Deputy Premier John Barilaro – however talked the premier into making more concessions at a meeting on Tuesday night. Restrictions on venues and social gatherings will be eased from December 1. Members of the hospitality industry have ridiculed Ms Berejiklian for her slow lifting of restrictions. Hospitality magnate Justin Hemmes was particularly outspoken on the matter, saying Australia should be following the example of places like New Zealand, especially in the lead up to Christmas. Jobs remained down 14.3 per cent in the industry.
