Africans are least responsible for, but worst affected by the climate crisis | DW News

DW News published this video item, entitled “Africans are least responsible for, but worst affected by the climate crisis | DW News” – below is their description.

The UN Climate Summit #COP28 opened in Dubai with loud calls for binding commitments on ending the use of fossil fuels. The UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said he wanted to see countries agree to phasing out the use of fossil fuels within a reasonable timeframe and went on to say that the resources are available but that there is a lack of political will.

Africa is responsible for less than five percent of global emissions but African countries are among the worst affected by a warming planet.

Zambia is currently chairing the African Group of Negotiators which will be representing the interests of the continent at this year’s summit .

Zambia, in southern Africa, is a landlocked country of rugged terrain and diverse wildlife, with many parks and safari areas. On its border with Zimbabwe is famed Victoria Falls – indigenously called Mosi-oa-Tunya, or “Smoke That Thunders” – plunging a misty 108m into narrow Batoka Gorge. Spanning the Zambezi River just below the falls is Victoria Falls Bridge, a spectacular viewpoint.
