Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) carrying out airstrikes in Gaza City, while a barrage of rockets fired from inside Gaza targeted cities in southern Israel as the situation continues to escalate.

Crying women and children fled from their residential building in Gaza City on Monday as Israeli airstrikes targeted parts of the city.

The following day, dozens of Palestinians took part in a funeral procession for 11-year-old Hussein Hamad, killed by one of the Israeli airstrikes in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Mourners chanted and burst into tears as the procession marched through the streets of the northern Gaza town of Beit Hanoun.

The Gaza health ministry said 25 Palestinians, including nine children, had been killed and 108 wounded by Israeli airstrikes.

At the same time, residents in Ashkelon took shelter as sirens rang out in response to a barrage of missiles launched at Ashkelon from inside Gaza City, as well as at other targets in southern Israel.

Israeli police said 31 people were hurt by rocket strikes in southern Israel, though the military said its air defences had intercepted around 90% of the cross-border rocket launches.
