Prada Multiple Views Spring/Summer 2021 – The Show That Never Happened

Fashion did not disappoint in 2020, despite the grip of global catastrophe, Spring / Summer 2021 from Prada was a strong “show that never happened” in digital.

For the Prada Spring/Summer 2021, a singular statement is replaced by the perspectives of many: multiple views, by a multitude of global creatives. The collection suggests the approach: different views, for a collection that proposes a myriad interpretations of the Prada man and woman. Congruent yet individually delineated, the collection is proposed in five chapters, which in turn are interpreted by five image-makers and artists. Terence Nance, Joanna Piotrowska, Martine Syms, Juergen Teller and Willy Vanderperre each propose a film capturing a facet of the Prada collection, distinct and definite in its creative statement and ideology, a point of view on Prada.

In Chapter 1, by Willy Vanderperre, the characters in this show appear sombre and Lowry-esque, before the mostly monochrome aesthetic is interspersed with splashes of color. Violins add to the drama of this rather wonderful movement.

Chapter 2 by Juergen Teller takes on an industrial vibe, set to a piano backing track.

Chapter 3 by Joanna Piotrowska is more monochrome, but features different, more modern flavors.

Chapter 4 by Martine Sims is set in an olive movie theatre, and features a color palette to suit. The film-inspired piece features a more modern soundtrack.

Chapter 5 by Terence Nance is a eclectic, urban, scene, showcasing some of Prada’s sport-inspired clothing. A mixture of old and new sees classic meet modern.

At the end, we are treated to some behind-the-scenes style shots, which show the clothing and cuts off in fine style, despite deliberately piercing the fourth wall.
