UK & Irish Horse Racing Tips: Thursday 1 December 2016

There are three British and one Irish horse racing meetings taking place on the first day of Advent.

National Hunt at Leicester and Market Rasen takes place in the afternoon, while an Irish National Hunt meeting at Thurles unfurls across the Irish Sea. In the evening, a flat all weather meeting at Chelmsford City rounds out the day.

Tips for the day are from The Global Herald resident tipster, Fortuno who saw a raft of placed horses at good each-way prices yesterday without any horse troubling the winners enclosure – save the notable mention of a heavily backed winner Memories Galore.

Today, the Nap of the Day goes in Ireland, in the last race at Thurles, a Handicap Hurdle over 2m7f 96y which begins at 3.25 PM. The selection is Queeny ridden by 4lb claimer R A Doyle for trainer Ronald O’Leary. This horse has shown steady improvement since the summer, and represents a solid each-way chance with four places paid in what is a weak handicap event. Early market support suggests each-way value still exists, as prices have tumbled from 14/1 to 9/1.

The Next Best for Thursday is the Philip Kirby trainer Improved, which runs in the 3.00 race at Market Rasen under the 5lb claimer Nathan Moscrop. 8/1 is a good price for an each-way bet on this horse, for those who missed prices up to 14/1 overnight.

There have been notable market moves for Hardline (1.20 Thurles) and Smadynium (12.45, Thurles) which may be worth noting, though there are four tips for today, which do not include those short-priced runners.
