There are five race meetings set to go ahead across the UK and Ireland on Saturday 17th December 2016.
Despite widespread frost, all meetings go ahead, with sunshine across most of the two countries. Jumps racing takes place at Haydock, Ascot, Newcastle and in Fairyhouse, while an afternoon card of flat all weather racing will unfold at Lingfield Park.
Fortuno has made eight selections for Saturday’s racing after picking up one winner and several close calls at good prices on Friday. Those tips are detailed below.
Nap of the Day is as short as you like: Mall Dini at the short side of evens to take the 2.45 at Fairyhouse under Davy Russell. This Patrick Kelly trained horse was impressive winner of the Pertemps Final at Cheltenham in March, and looked good on a first try at fences last time out, finishing strongly for third in a race which has worked out well since. Having learned and gained fitness for that spin out, a return to a more suitable distance puts everything in this horse’s favour today, and he is the one to beat here. Even at a price as short as 5/6, this is the best chance of today, and we may well see antepost prices for Cheltenham shortening at around 3pm.
Next Best for Saturday runs up at Newcastle in the 3.25 National Hunt Flat Race, where the powerful Reveley yard sends Teescomponents Lad. Ridden by strong Northern amateur John Dawson, this horse is related to a host of bumper winners, including some who won on debut, making market support this morning notable. A price of 13/2 has each way written all over it, and this is a race without great depth, which may not take much winning. A solid each-way chance.
