Classic Match! Partick Thistle 4-1 Celtic

This Classic Match is the 1971 League Cup Final, where Partick Thistle stunned their Glasgow rivals Celtic with a 4-1 hammering – earning some much deserved silverware!

The Jags exploded onto the game and had the trophy tied up before the half-time whistle had sounded. Alex Rae and Bobby Lawrie scored stunning goals within the first 15 minutes as Thistle pushed Celtic strongly onto the back foot. Dennis McQuade and Jimmy Bone completed the Maryhill men’s scoring in a quite incredible first-half.

Celtic were certainly stronger in the second period, but they could only score a solitary goal in reply as Kenny Dalgiesh poked into an empty net with 20 minutes remaining. As the full-time whistle sounded, the whole of Hampden raised to their feet in respect and acknowledgement of a memorable and wonderful Partick Thistle victory.
