Stoke and Sunderland play out the day’s early kick-off match at the Britannia Stadium, with both sides looking to establish themselves more firmly in the upper half of the table. Sunderland will be favourites for this match, as they currently sit in a deserved 6th place in the league, though Stoke trail them by only 7 points in 11th.
Aston Villa v Fulham – Kick-Off (GMT) 15:00
Aston Villa will be hoping to get back to winning ways following their defeat at the hands of league leaders Manchester United in midweek. Fulham go into this match one point ahead of Villa, in 12th and 14th places respectively, so the winner will be the higher of the two in the league come Saturday evening. A draw could be beckoning.
Everton v Blackpool – Kick-Off (GMT) 15:00
Everton meet Blackpool with both sides looking for a win to turn around their recent fortunes. This is another six point game, as Blackpool are just one point ahead of Everton heading into this match: Blackpool are 13th; Everton are 15th. A win for either side will put much needed distance between them and the relegation places, which, if the bottom sides keep winning as they have been, could prove important come the season’s end.
Man City v West Brom – Kick-Off (GMT) 15:00
City will be desperate to record a win after the wheels have begun wobbling on their title effort, though they have not, as yet, fallen off completely. West Brom, also, must be hearing alarm bells now that their early season dominance has melted away: they sit just two points above the drop zone and, without a win, could find themselves in a relegation place by Saturday night.
Newcastle v Arsenal – Kick-Off (GMT) 15:00
Newcastle meet high-flying Arsenal at St James’ Park and will be looking to secure their first point since losing Andy Carroll to Liverpool this week. However, the Geordies will have their work cut out against the title challenging Gunners.
Tottenham v Bolton – Kick-Off (GMT) 15:00
If Spurs can defeat Bolton at home, they’ll draw level on points with Chelsea in fourth place in the table, if only for 24 hours, so three points is important for Tottenham. Bolton can leap-frog Liverpool, Chelsea’s opponents on Sunday, with a win, so they, too, will be looking for victory. This could be one of the highlights of the afternoon, as Spurs and Bolton are both teams who know better how to score goals than how to stop them; much will depend upon the form of each goalkeeper, one feels.
Wigan v Blackburn – Kick-Off (GMT) 15:00
Wigan sit second bottom in the Barclays Premier League, and will be desperate to pick up three points in this match against Blackburn, who are 9th.
Wolverhampton v Man Utd – Kick-Off (GMT) 17:30
The late kick-off for Saturday is Wolverhampton v Man Utd at Molineux. Wolves have often saved their best performances for the toughest games this season, and they’ll need to be on their mettle again on Saturday evening to get anything from this match with the league leaders.
This is a bottom v top clash, as Wolves currently sit at the foot of the table, though, one feels, the scoreline and match could be closer than that statistic suggests. Wolves, who attack better than they defend, could put on an entertaining show if United’s defence are short of their usual brilliant best.
