Bayern Munich’s attacking French midfielder, Franck Ribery, has been handed a three match ban by UEFA following his Champions League 2010 Semi-Final first leg dismissal for a dangerous tackle against Lyon.
Many had expected UEFA to impose the minimum one match ban for the player, however, the official panel have adjudged Ribery’s tackle to have been sufficiently bad to warrant a three match layoff – which will see the Frenchman miss Bayern’s 22 May 2010 UEFA Champions League Final, as well as the first European match of next season.
Ribery missed last night’s Semi-Final second leg against Lyon, which Bayern Munich won 3-0 away from home to clinch a 2010 UEFA Final with a 4-0 aggregate victory over two games.
The German side have three days in which to lodge an appeal against this decision with UEFA. At present, Franck Ribery will not play in the UEFA Champions League Final on 22 May at the Bernabeu.
