English Premier League Football: Aston Villa Score Late to Beat Birmingham Rivals

Aston Villa scored late through Gabriel Agbonlahor to secure victory in today’s Birmingham derby at St Andrews.

The goal, which came in the 85th minute, came from an Ashley Young free kick which was flicked on by John Carew, who had been introduced as a substitute with 20 minutes remaining.

Villa were probably worth their victory as, despite Birmingham’s dogged approach, they looked the more comfortable on the ball, and created the better chances in each half.

Martin O’Neills men now sit in sixth place in the Barclays Premier League with just four matches played. Birmingham, on the other hand, are just 1 point ahead of the relegation zone, albeit with a long way to go in this season.
