Australia has just opened the doors to the new National Cricket Centre in Brisbane, ahead of the first test against England in the Ashes tournament.
Queensland’s Premier, Campbell Newman, officially opened the $29 million high performance cricket training facility at the Allan Border Field in Albion, with the help of Australian captain Michael Clarke and other cricketers including Greg Chappell and Rod Marsh.
The Federal Minister for Sport, the Hon Peter Dutton, said of the newly opened development:
“The new centre will be home to a range of high performance training programs including from the Australian Institute of Sport, national specialist programs, Cricket Australia sport science and sport medicine programs, and camp-based programs for elite international and domestic players. It will also provide services to meet the needs of Australian teams, including our men’s and women’s national cricket teams.”
A multipurpose facility has also been built at the site, and is available for booking by the public.
