The 2023 The Lancet and the Academy of Medical Sciences International Health Lecture was presented by Professor Gagandeep (Cherry) Kang, Director of Global Health at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

In this lecture, Professor Kang reflected on the successes and lessons learnt from the rotavirus vaccine journey in India, touching on issues such as vaccine inequity and vaccine effectiveness in low and-middle-income countries, manufacturing in the global south, how developing countries can lead in driving forwards the public health agenda, and what we can learn to improve global health in the future.

Professor Kang was joined by a global expert panel who gave short talks:

• Professor Petro Terblanche, Managing Director, Afrigen Biologics

• Professor Suerie Moon, Professor of Practice & Global Health Expert, Geneva Graduate Institute
