Mitt Romney has secured a win at the psychologically important Republican Caucus in Iowa. Now the Republican front runner for United States President, Romney won by eight votes. The former Governor of Massachusetts and committed Mormon was almost pipped to the post by Rick Santorum, who also garnered 25% of the 122,000 votes.
Mitt Romney received 30,015 votes, to Santorum’s 30,007. Results were as follows:
- Mitt Romney 24.55%
- Rick Santorum 24.54%
- Texas’ Ron Paul 21.5%
- Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich 13%
- The Governor of Texas, Rick Perry 10%
- Michele Bachmann from Minnesota 5%
- Jon Huntsman
- Cain
- Roemer
The remaining candidates will travel to New Hampshire next week for another round of debates and voting through Rick Perry is travelling home to “reassess his candidacy”.
He won by 0.01% – hardly victory of the century. My prediction? Newt Gingrich will be there to the end.
