ITV News published this video item, entitled “Year 7 pupils and above to wear face masks in communal areas amid series of new measures | ITV News” – below is their description.
Children in Year 7 and above will be urged to wear face coverings in communal areas in England’s schools and colleges in a bid to help control the spread of the new Omicron Covid variant, the government has announced.
Under the new guidance, all staff, visitors and pupils in Year 7 – the first year of secondary school – or above, are “strongly advised” to wear a covering, unless they are exempt.
The announcement of the measure came after a third case of the Omicron variant was confirmed in the UK in a traveller who had visited London but has since left the country.
The measures will come into effect the day before face masks become mandatory again in shops and public transport in England from Tuesday.
