South China Morning Post published this video item, entitled “Workers unhappy about China’s plan to change decades-old retirement age rules” – below is their description.
Workers in China are not happy with Beijing’s plan to gradually raise the mandatory retirement ages for men and women that have been in place for decades in the country. Older people are worried the change will delay pension payouts, while younger workers fear competition from people who will spend more time in their jobs. Chinese officials announced the plan in March 2021, in what some observers say is a move to offset changes in the size of the workforce.
