7NEWS Australia published this video item, entitled “Woolworths to stop selling plastic shopping bags, instead sell paper bags | 7NEWS” – below is their description.
Woolworths will dump its 15 cent plastic bags in a matter of weeks with shoppers to bring their own or pay 25 cents for paper bags. Coles is yet to say whether it’ll do the same as supermarkets grapple with mounting tonnes of plastic waste following the collapse of recycling schemes.
This “transition” as Woolies calls it, is part of a nation-wide change. Having already scrapped the 15 cent plastic bags everywhere except New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania. By doing so they’ll take thousands of tonnes of plastic out of circulation. Feedback from customers has been a bit mixed.
Meanwhile, 7NEWS today found in Marsden Park one of the dozens of REDCycle stockpiles of plastic bags with a snap taskforce now trying to figure out what to do with 12,000+ tonnes of it.
7NEWS understands that bails found stocked outside, like this, can’t be recycled.
