Virgin Galactic on Tuesday unveiled its new spaceship, the “VSS Imagine,” which is the first of the company’s latest generation of commercial spaceships.
Virgin Group founder Sir Richard Branson said the spaceship marked the expansion of the fleet, with Imagine being the first of the Virgin Galactic Spaceship III class of vehicle.
The Imagine is finished with a reflective mirror-like material, which the company said in a news release provides thermal protection. It will begin ground testing soon, with a test flight program following in the summer from Virgin’s Spaceport America in New Mexico.
