Global News published this video item, entitled “US election: Kamala Harris’ ancestral village, uncle in India celebrates VP win” – below is their description.
Firecrackers went off and prayers were held at Thulasendrapuram, the ancestral village of vice-president-elect Kamala Harris on Sunday after she made history by becoming the first Black American and first Asian American to win the second-highest U.S. office. “The thing we take we do take immense pride in her victory and what she has or whom she has become today,” said Raj Shivam, a resident of the village located about 320 km (200 miles) south of Chennai, where Harris’s maternal grandfather was born more than a century ago. Plus, Harris’ maternal Indian uncle said on Sunday he was sure of her election victory. Gopalan Balachandran, who lives in south Delhi, was elated by her win and said he would attend her swearing-in ceremony. Balachandran, who says his phone hasn’t stopped ringing since Harris’ victory was declared on Saturday, said upon seeing Harris, he would like to tell her “to keep up the good work.” Democrat Joe Biden won the U.S. presidential election on Saturday after a bitter campaign and a nail-biting vote count that lasted for days.
