    The number of people who have died from COVID-19 in the United States has surpassed 400,000, as President Donald Trump prepares to leave the White House.

    Despite Trump’s much-touted vaccine programme, many Americans have yet to receive a jab and a new more infectious variant of the coronavirus is spreading like wildfire across the country.

    Incoming President Joe Biden who takes office on January 20 has pledged to speed up the inoculation scheme and tighten containment measures.
