Global News published this video item, entitled “Trudeau commits 25 per cent protection of Canada’s land and oceans by 2025” – below is their description.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau committed on Monday to protect 25 per cent of Canada’s both land and oceans by 2025 and urged other world leaders to join the pledge during a virtual conference for Leaders Event for Nature and People. The event, co-hosted by World Wide Fund for Nature ahead of UN summit on biodiversity, brought together leaders of more than 20 countries to pledge for a global response for climate change and biodiversity. Trudeau said his country is committed to increasing its lands and oceans’ protection to 30 per cent by 2030, and will be working with Indigenous peoples “who need to be partners” in protecting the land “and who understand how to be good stewards” of nature. The prime minister also said Canada is moving forward with other commitments like banning plastics and planting 2 billion trees.
