More than 5,000 cultural artefacts dating back more than 3,000 years to the Bronze Age have been unearthed in southwestern China. Archeologists announced on June 18, 2022, that they had found the relics in the Laolongtou graves in Yanyuan county in Sichuan province. They said more than 1,100 graves and a sacrificial horse pit have been discovered at the site so far. China’s Bronze Age generally refers to an era during the Shang and Zhou dynasties, from about 1600BC until 771BC. Excavations that started in the Laolongtou area in the 1980s have so far extended to about 30 per cent of the 12,200 square metre (131,320 sq ft) site.
