This woman is helping her community fight suicide in Akita, Japan, by teaching yoga.
Akita was known as the country’s suicide capital. “I noticed people around me in Akita committed suicide one after another,” says yoga teacher, Seiko Taki.
But now, suicide rates in the city are at their lowest in years.
Seiko’s student, Namiko Kudo lost her brother to suicide. When describing her yoga community, she says, “I thought this was something that I could be part of.”
