Theresa May and the DUP: “A grubby deal”

The legislature approved her Conservative agenda as spelled out in last week’s Queen’s Speech, but only after the pledge to pay for women in Northern Ireland who want to come to England for abortions. Northern Ireland has one of Europe’s strictest abortion laws and the government’s concession was to ward off an amendment that gained momentum after Theresa May struck an alliance deal with the socially conservative DUP Party, one that includes a billion-pound pledge to fund infrastructure in Northern Ireland.
