Giant pandas are known as China’s national treasures. But they are much more than just cuddly creatures. For decades, Beijing has made the most of the pandas’ “soft power” to help foster relationships with other countries. As part of conservation efforts to boost dwindling numbers of them, some 400 pandas live in zoos around the world. We bring you more on this so-called “panda diplomacy”.
Meanwhile, in Afghanistan, public anger boils over amid worsening security following a devastating blast in Kabul, one of the deadliest in years.
And a second chance at life for India’s abandoned babies. We look at the country’s moves to save millions of unwanted children from death, or from falling into the hands of traffickers and smugglers.
