Australian Colin Mackerras first came to China in 1964, and has since split his time between China and Australia. As a Sinologist he has specialized in Chinese culture, ethnic groups and China’s evolving image in the world. He was mentioned as a bridge-builder during Xi Jinping’s address to the Australian parliament in 2014. What has kept him going despite the ups and downs in bilateral ties? What does he make of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the key messages? CGTN’s Liu Xin spoke to sinologist and Professor Emeritus at Griffith University of Australia.
