Thailand is grappling with its biggest coronavirus outbreak since the pandemic began. The country reported a daily record of 18,912 new cases and a record 178 new deaths on July 31, 2021. Anti-government activists, who accuse the government of mishandling the pandemic, are back on the streets of Bangkok despite a lockdown imposed on the capital since July 12. Observers warn the protests will intensify if the health crisis deepens.
