Al Jazeera English published this video item, entitled “Tales of abuse as Bangladeshi female workers return from the Gulf” – below is their description.
Rights groups say thousands of migrant workers in Gulf countries, mostly working as domestic help, are at risk of bad working conditions and physical and sexual assault. In November last year, dozens of Bangladeshi female workers sent a video message from Saudi Arabia pleading for help and asking to be rescued. Social advocacy groups are calling on the government to protect its workers abroad, including by increasing oversight over its own recruiting agents, offering protection for its workers in host countries, and aiding workers in distress. Al Jazeera’s Tanvir Chowdhury reports from Manikganj, Bangladesh. –
