Sweden has legislation going before the Riksdag to reduce the Swedish contribution to KFOR to seventy people until April 2012 and thereafter to reduce the number until the end of 2013, when the mandate for Swedish forces in Kosovo will end.
Minister for Defence Sten Tolgfors said of the changes:
“Military commitments within the framework of KFOR will continue in 2012 and 2013, with the primary focus on the military Liaison and Observation Teams to which Sweden has contributed for more than a year. The Swedish reduction will take place under the condition that the positive developments in Kosovo continue.”
KFOR has been present in Kosovo for over twelve years after arriving as a 50,000 strong force in June 1999.
