Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has confirmed he is “cancelling the rest of the HS2 project” and will replace it by reinvesting “every single penny” of the £36bn project in hundreds of new transport projects in the North and the Midlands.
Mr Sunak has unveiled a new transport scheme that will be called “Network North”, adding he would “protect” the £12bn project to link Manchester and Liverpool and that HS2 trains will run on an existing track to Manchester and end at Euston.
