The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is expected to hold a meeting on Tuesday on the ongoing crisis in Sudan. The meeting is being held just hours after a new ceasefire was brokered and took effect at 12:01 a.m. Sudan local time.

White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan spoke Monday on the work the U.S. is doing to help in the evacuation of Americans from Sudan.

He said there are no “American boots on the ground” in Sudan other than the brief period of time that military personnel were brought in to evacuate other personnel. But he said surveillance and reconnaissance assets are evacuating over the “land evacuation route” to facilitate safe travel by land from Khartoum to the Port of Sudan.

Numerous countries have been working to evacuate not only their own citizens, but other countries’ as well. The evacuations came following a week of heavy fighting between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces, which has left hundreds dead and thousands wounded.
