With a US$28.6 billion market value in 2022, the global anime market has grown to become one of the most popular and lucrative battlefields for streaming giants, including Netflix, Disney+, and Amazon Prime. Disney+ and Amazon Prime have sought to gain exclusive streaming rights to Japanese anime. But because of the comparatively small number of streaming service users in Japan, anime industry players in the country have been as keen to strike a deal.
