The South Korean tech company has already released two foldable devices, the latest iteration includes upgrades and new features.
“Overall, the body is thinner. And we minimized the gap between the screens. Making this ergonomic design fit comfortably in your pocket,” explains Victor Delgado, Global Sales and Marketing at Samsung.
“Even when it’s closed, you have a full smartphone experience. Open the device. And you can access an even more immersive viewing experience. We maximize the screen with our hold and display technology, bringing our Infinity O-display to the Z Fold2 across a beautiful 7.6 inches.”
The upcoming foldable phone is something of a do-over for Samsung.
The company’s first foldable phone last year turned out to be a flop, partly because it proved fragile, even after the company delayed its release by several months in an effort to deal with the problem.
Samsung promises the Z Fold2 will be far more durable because it will have ultra-thin glass and tougher hinges for unfolding the device.
Samsung says it will be releasing further details on the Z Fold2 on September 1, when it will be available to pre-order.
The company also unveiled several other new devices during its online presentation, including the new Galaxy Note 20 series, the Galaxy Tab S7 and S7+ tablets, the Galaxy Watch3, which is being marketed as a health monitor, and Galaxy Buds Live – a set of wireless in-ear headphones.
Samsung is already struggling with an unsettling downturn.
Its smartphone shipments plunged 29 percent from last year in the April-June quarter, according to the research firm International Data Corp (IDC).
That drop helped China’s Huawei at least temporarily surpass Samsung as the world’s top seller of smartphones.
