Meet Chan Sophal, field staff for malaria elimination who works on the ground serving vulnerable and hard-to-reach communities.
“When we work in remote areas, we have to travel in small boats to get there…most of the communities are indigenous and ethnic minorities. It’s important not to discriminate and to make the information available to everyone,” he says.
“A large part of my daily work is supporting village malaria workers (VMWs), training and supporting them in the field. We go together to people’s houses to educate the community, so that people understand malaria prevention techniques.”
He is proud of his family, his contribution to eliminate malaria and #ProudToBeWHO. “I’d like to say to all WHO staff around the world that, if we put our hearts to work, we can succeed at anything we do especially when working in the community. We have to be willing to make sacrifices and share what we know to help those who need it most.”
