7NEWS Australia published this video item, entitled “Rapid antigen testing for NSW students and teachers | 7NEWS” – below is their description.
Students across New South Wales will be asked to take rapid antigen tests as part of a COVID-safe plan to return to the classroom next week.
Another million RATs are expected to be delivered to schools and childcare centres just today. The back-to-school plan includes, for the first 4 weeks, asking staff and students to get tested twice a week and obviously stay home if COVID positive.
With the government saying this year there will be no closing of schools because of COVID. Parents will be notified if there’s been a positive case and asked to watch for any symptoms.
Masks will again be compulsory for staff and high school students, and recommended for primary school students. Air purifiers are also being sent out to improve classroom ventilation.
And similar to last year, there’ll be restrictions on visitors. And students will be kept in cohorts.
Some with staggered start and finish times and break times to avoid any mingling. The challenge now is to get those millions of rapid tests to parents and staff before school starts in just a few days.
Health experts are expecting a rise in cases when school does go back, but say overall the state’s COVID situation seems to be stabilising.
Though the number of people needing hospital care has risen again to 2,816 – 196 of them in intensive care with another 24 people losing their lives.
